Written after a hike in the Colorado mountains with an old flame.    What's ever for sure anyway?      At least we left footprints and love to show we were here.  

The title track of the album, and along with “Alexis & the Sea” and “Sweat, Tears & the Sea”, inspiration for the album cover.

Track 4:  "Fun in Heaven"

In loving memory of Brian Yaussi and Glenn Roberts.  

Wherever they are, I guarantee it is brighter and more fun than it was prior to their arrival. My life sure was while they were here. I started this song after Brian died. But I had to develop the skills to play it as well as I heard it in my head. In the meantime, Glenn left us too. So I revised it to include him. I miss you guys. Hope you're having fun.    

Dedicated to Brian's mother and sister, Mrs. Martha O'Donnell and Mrs. Sarah Yaussi, and Glenn's mother, Mrs. Carolyn Roberts.

Track 5:   "Company Men"

A song about power. Specifically how power needs enablers, and how they act around it.  

The seeds of this song were sewn by my former bosses. But I wrote it years later, after watching the Company Men enablers of current events. The parallels were uncanny, and this song sprang out. 

I hope you enjoy it! And maybe in some small way it might inspire some courage in someone.

Track 6:  "Miss May"

A song about the seasons of life.    I have a soft spot for this tune, particularly the lyrics.  

Track 7: "Find a New Fool"

My take on honky tonk, country blues, western swing, Bakersfield.  Whatever you call it, I love that music and the artists who made it.  This was so fun to make.   Hope you enjoy.  

 

Winner! 2025 Colorado Music Business Song Contest

Track 8:  "Turn My Back on Love"

Written within minutes after a heartbreaking phone call. I couldn't help but wonder if there's something wrong with me, and why I felt such a strong urge to turn my back on something so wonderful? 

This song was the response that came back.  I guess comforting myself that maybe I haven't lost my mind.

Track 9:  "Every Little Thing"

A song about old fashioned chivalry. 

And asking only one favor in return - that she hang on to the happy heart I fell for in the first place. 

I'm learning that it's harder than it seems. But it sure is the greatest gift.

Track 10: "Boomtown"

My love song to Denver, Colorado, and the other great places we love so much. 

Gonna guess we're not the only ones feeling this way.  

Track 11: "Sweat, Tears, & the Sea"

Salt water heals. 

I wrote this on a plane to visit my ailing mother for the last time. 

This is a deeply personal one. Thanks for listening. Mike

Track 12: "Don't Forget About Fats"

Song of gratitude to the original kings of rock 'n roll, Fats Domino,  Dave Bartholomew and their fine band.    

They deserve a biopic and another generation of fans.   Until then, this will have to do.   

Track 13: "After This Storm"

A song about creation from destruction.    

Eagle ears may spot the “earth, air, fire, water” imagery.

Dallas Songwriter's Association 2025 Song Contest

The Dallas Songwriter Association contest is a marquee, international song contest with thousands of entries.

"Second Time Around" took 4th place in the Grand Prize among all songs, and same in the Love Song Category. "Fun in Heaven" took 3rd in Singer/Songwriter, and "To Stone" was an Americana semi-finalist. I also had fun performing all 3 songs on the virtual award show. Congratulations to all winners!
